Earlier last month, the Manse on Marsh celebrated National Assisted Living Week.
Each year, National Assisted Living Week highlights and recognizes the role Assisted Living has on caring for America’s seniors or individuals with disabilities. NAWL is celebrated by the caregivers, and residents of assisted living, annually on September 10-16. The holiday is showcased with days filled with meaningful memories and experiences for all parties involved. People the celebrate week with arts & crafts, music, family traditions and honoring special “like family” awards to residents or administrators. A lot of planning takes place to make sure that events for loved ones, like support groups, family council meetings, and educational events are celebrated by all.
The theme, “Family is Forever” rings true for the year 2017. It takes many special people who form deep family like bonds with each other to become a community, and recognising and honoring this tradition happens on an annual basis, with new themes inspired by quotes. This year’s theme was inspired by a Maya Angelou, “ Family isn’t always blood, it’s the people in your life who want you in theirs: the ones who accept you for who you are, the ones who would do anything to see you smile and who love you no matter what.” For assisted living communities in the United States, this holiday encourages the formation of activities and events to recognise relationships between family like bonds and friends for life.
